Susan brings a wealth of musical experience and artistry to the “Private Stock Jazz Collective.” Her professional musical journey began as a clarinetist and bass clarinetist with the MIT Wind Ensemble before expanding to alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. She has performed many musical styles—from Sousa marches and regional Broadway pit orchestras to the timeless big band repertoire. Susan holds a BA in Composition from the Manhattan School of Music and was privileged to study flute and saxophone with the late, great Frank Wess. She also studied film scoring at New York University and jazz composition and arranging with Jimmy Heath at Queens College. She later completed her formal education with an MFA in Music Production and Songwriting from SUNY Purchase. As the music director of the Hot Lavender Swing Big Band, Susan has led performances celebrating the music of Count Basie, Frank Foster, Frank Wess, and Sammy Nestico, as well as Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Susan also co-wrote the score for the award-winning animated children's short “Joey Runs Away,” winning the Bronze Award for "Best Original Music" at the International Film & TV Festival of New York.
Based in White Plains, NY, Susan enjoys writing pop songs at the piano that explore the human condition and our ever-changing world.
